Do you know your WHY?
In the second chapter of my new ebook, Your Brand is a Promise, I share just how important it is to know your why as a business. And one example of someone who clearly knows her why is Oprah Winfrey.
As one of the biggest brands out there, she has a passion to bring happiness and a sense of fulfillment into every home through television and to make the world a better place through philanthropy. She’s been so successful with the OWN Network, and is the go-to person any time any celebrity wants to get a particular story out. Celebrities know that she will showcase them in such a light that they’ll be able to say what they need to say in a way that they need to say it. I talk about how, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to tell their story amidst all the gossip swirling around, they felt like with Oprah, they could appear on a platform that would allow them to best articulate exactly what was going on and why they chose to make the decisions they did. I watched that interview, and believe that regardless of whether or not we liked what they had to say, the way Oprah handled it was masterful. Her skill in this area is something she created over time, because she’s basing everything on this idea of bringing happiness and fulfillment into the world.
In the spirit of this dynamic, immensely talented woman, let me ask you, what’s your a-ha moment when it comes to the why of your business? Why do you exist? Why do you do what you do? I’d love to hear your comments! Also, if you’d like to read the book, which details dozens of brands and expounds upon your vision, mission and purpose, you can find the link here.
