Masterclass on Brand Licensing, at the India Licensing Expo 2017

India Licensing Expo (ILE), India’s first and most influential business-to-business brand licensing show was concluded successfully on August 21st at the Sahara Star, Mumbai. In attendance were many business leaders, government heads and celebrities. The brainchild of License India, Indian Licensing Expo 2017 witnessed participation from over 100+ global and domestic brands across the retail industry along with more than 5,000 national/international delegates. With an aim to increase awareness and support the growth of licensing in the country, the show proffered two forums, a Master Class and a Conference.


The 2 days certification Master Class began on 19th August and ended on 20th August. The Master Class was a comprehensive overview of how brands extend and expand via licensing. The Master Class was conducted exclusively to 25 delegates by Mr. Pete Canalichio, Brand Licensing Expert and Managing Partner, Licensing Brands Inc. and Mr. Chris Evans, Managing Director, University of Oxford. The Master Class offered practical and in-depth analysis of brand licensing as a business strategy along with educating the attendees with all the tools for brand licensing and merchandising available to them in India. This two-day certification course focused on the key aspects of brand licensing in accordance within a highly fragmented Indian retail market.


The Master Class was such a success that the License India team plans to bring it back for the India Licensing Expo 2018.

Negotiating Deal Terms Round Table at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, NV

Pete was chosen as one of the few elite licensing experts to hold a round table discussion at the Licensing Expo. He presented the essential elements of optimal deal terms through a 5-stage process: understanding deal terms, negotiation strategy, agreeing to deal terms, drafting and signing the agreement. Pete provided crib notes to all attendees which peaked their interest for further conversation and consultation.

Building Universes, Growing Revenues

Pete was invited as a guest speaker to the Robinson College of Business at GSU. He presented to the Marketing and MBA graduate students and shared his findings and experience on what it takes to build valuable assets and to generate more value from those assets against a backdrop of rising consumer expectations around experiences and what consumers get for free.  He spoke about how a game like Halo generated millions in revenue through long term storytelling, partnerships and the judicious use of technology, and explored through conversation what other brands can learn.

This workshop is designed to familiarize professionals with the role licensing plays in brand extension and expansion. Featuring the Rubbermaid brand to illustrate the concept, it details the process necessary to ensure success.

343 Industries (abbreviated to 343i) is an American video game developer located in Redmond, Washington. Named after the Halo character 343 Guilty Spark, the company was established in 2009 by Microsoft Studios to oversee the development of the Halo science fiction media franchise following a split between Microsoft and Bungie in 2007. Halo 4 was the first title released by 343 Industries in which they played a lead development role. Upcoming releases from the company include Halo Wars 2 in 2017.



In 2010, Pete was invited by William and Goran Krnjak to speak at their inaugural Licensing New Europe conference. This conference attracted companies and professionals from throughout the Eastern Europe region and exposed them to the concepts of brand expansion and extension through licensing. Pete spoke to attendees the first two days of the conference covering a variety of topics and issues facing the industry.
